A Bit About Divot
Divot has a very people-oriented, affectionate temperament with a strong desire to be close to his person. He was initially unsure when placed into the new surroundings and was somewhat whiny, but rather than shutting down, he sought out the tester and quickly crawled into his lap. Once he had that reassurance and physical connection, he was content being held and was happy to engage with toys. He clearly looks to his person for comfort and connection when he is uncertain.
He showed excellent human focus and motivation throughout the evaluation. Even though he needed some extra reassurance in the unfamiliar environment, he continued to stick with the tester and willingly complied with all aspects of the test. He was not resistant to being asked to do things and showed that once he understands what is expected of him, he is willing to work alongside his person. He chose to complete the obstacles on his own rather than being pushed through them, which fits his thoughtful approach to new situations.
One of his biggest strengths is that his uncertainty did not translate into poor resilience. He handled the sudden sights and sounds well and did not show significant stress responses when something unexpected happened. He has a softer side and will likely thrive with a person who provides reassurance and builds his confidence through positive experiences. Overall, he is an affectionate, highly people-focused boy with good motivation and resilience who may take a little time to feel completely at home in unfamiliar environments.
Best Fit for Divot
He would be a wonderful fit for a family looking for a very people-oriented companion who wants to be involved in his family’s life. He would likely do especially well with someone who enjoys cuddling, playing, training, and having their dog close by. His high human focus and motivation give him a lot of potential for training, while his affectionate nature makes him the type of puppy who really wants a relationship with his people. A family that is patient and willing to give him a little extra reassurance as he experiences new things would bring out the very best in him.
May Not be the Best Fit for Divot
He may not be the best match for a home looking for a completely independent, immediately confident puppy who can walk into any new environment without needing reassurance. He does show some uncertainty in unfamiliar surroundings and may vocalize when he isn’t sure what is happening. His family should be prepared to help him build confidence rather than expecting him to instantly be comfortable in every new situation. With that support, though, I think his affectionate nature, strong human focus, and willingness to work with his person will be some of his biggest strengths.
