Our Story
Hello! We're Cody and Rycki Mehmert, a husband and wife team dedicated to finding you you're next "best dog ever." My husband and I started breeding and raising Mini Bernedoodles in January of 2016! It has been quite the journey that's got us here today, but we are overjoyed and blessed to be where we're at!

It all started as kids. Long before we new each other, we both had a strong love for animals, especially dogs! Both of our families had multiple family dogs growing up, and that is something we bonded over immediately when we were first started getting to know each other. Growing up, my family even bred a few Labrador Retriever litters with our beloved family dog, Honey, growing up. My sisters and I would spend hours on end out in our old farm building where the puppies were born with a notebook and markers trying to figure out names for all our new fuzzy, four legged friends. We would analyze every characteristic about the newborns and have them all named in a matter of hours. Names like "Butterball" and "Lucky" would get tossed around! Experiencing this as a young girl gave me quite a bit of the knowledge and instinct I use when it comes to my Bernedoodle litters today.

Fast forward to meeting my husband at college, moving back to his home town (4 hours away from mine), getting engaged, and desperately searching for a house to call home.
We searched high and low for a well built house that sat on a few acres. The plan was to one day be able to build a dog breeding facility and start our own business. Unfortunately, we never quite found anything that fit all our criteria, and if we did, it was out of our price range. Today we recognize that all of the let downs we experienced back then were simply just a few blessings in disguise.

After we had all but lost hope, one day we heard that a mutual friend was selling his house! It was actually perfect because it was just down the road from where we currently lived and worked. Best part of all, he already had a dog building, and was breeding Bernese Mountain Dogs as a side job to support his own BBQ Business. He had just gotten married and they were looking to start a new chapter in town, leaving the country life behind. Lucky for us, we got the opportunity to purchase the acerage, house, dogs, building, everything!
A little dazed and confused at what just happened, we hit the ground running with the dog business. I was ecstatic to know there was going to be puppies in my near future, and my husband was ecstatic that we were getting started with only a very small portion of the start up cost that we had originally anticipated.
We learned so much along the way from experiencing it first hand and having the help from family and some amazing friends. After a few years of having adorable litters and matching our puppies with incredible families, we dreamed even bigger yet. We had always had a vision for Country Lane not to be the biggest, but to be the best when it comes to the quality of our dogs and the buyer experience when purchasing from us.

With essentially all of the profit that our Mama’s had brought us thus far, we decided
to break ground on a brand new 4400 sq. ft. dog building (4 times the size of current house), thought up and designed by my husband and I on a piece of notebook paper. Every detail was meticulously thought through, taking everything we had learned thus far into account. The comfort, happiness, functionality, cleanliness, and safety of our dogs was at the forefront of our design. We spent countless hours drawing up rough drafts of possible building set ups, until we finally landed on the perfect one. We tweaked it a couple dozen times before actually sending it off to the builder. In June 2017 (our wedding month) we officially broke ground. By November, our first litter was born in the new nursery!

Today, many of our mamas have enjoyed the comfort of whelping their litters in our wonderful nursery, and plenty of customers have walked through our front doors and experienced the warm, welcoming place we worked so hard to create. The perfect setting to meet their new best friend and loving companion.
​
We still have such big hopes and dreams for Country Lane moving forward. We feel so lucky to have been given the opportunity to serve families all over the US, and it means so much to us to be a trusted breeder of these precious pets. There’s no better feeling than when we match one of our puppies with their caring new owner. It’s why we put so much time, love, and effort into making sure these special animals continue to be bred.
